Buy a Tag Heuer with Cryptocurrency - Tag Heuer takes the Leap

Over the past few years, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology have become a part of the banking and payments landscape. Back in 2019, I covered how Vacheron Constantin would be using blockchain technology for their certifications of authenticity. Well, three years later, Tag Heuer has taken the leap to accept cryptocurrencies as a form of payment for the watches they are selling.

The brand will be allowing cryptocurrencies as a payment method through BitPay for online purchases made in USA as a starting point. They will be accepting Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Shiba Inu (SHIB), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC). Further, you can use stable coins that are pinned to the USD like USDP, BUSD, DAI, USDC, and GUSD. Even though the volatility of some of these coins are high, a rate will be locked in for 15 minutes while one completes the check out process. Purchases are capped at the equivalent of $10,000 but who knows if that will change in the future.

The move by the brand certainly opens up the opportunity for a new type of watch collector or watch enthusiast to enter into the market. It makes the brands watches accessible to those interesting in cryptocurrencies, while maybe other brands may not be as easily acquired by native cryptocurrency users. For cryptocurrencies, the move by Tag Heuer acts as a huge validation for their coins, and shows that there is a possible future for cryptocurrencies in the payment landscape. We will have to wait and see if other brands adopt similar practices.

Enjoy!
