Looking back at 2019, there were many outstanding watches that were released that have caught the eye of the watch collecting world. Looking forward into the new year, the question is what watch would you buy this year? With the changing global economy and by extension the watch collecting economy, this question may be a difficult one. We have decided to give it a go and tell you what watches you should buy this next year.

If you are looking for an everyday watch, the Longines Master Collection Moonphase is a good choice. It is a 40mm watch that runs off of the caliber L899, ETA based movement that powers the hours, minutes, second, date and moonphase complications. Being slightly larger, the watch has a sportier feel to it even though it has a very classical complication in the moonphase. Its legeable and the silver barleycorn dial is simply beautiful. Also, its one of the more affordable luxury watches that one can find.

For a chronograph, the Bulgari Octo Finnissimo Chronograph GMT would be our pick. The watch houses the thinnest movement ever produced to date at 3.3mm in height. THe caliber BVL318 is exquisitely put together and finished. The case measures 42mm and is definitely a new look for a wrist watch. Its unique, super thin and lightweight and is the perfect chronograph watch for 2020.

One of the most desired category of watches is the diver watch. This was a difficult choice but we went for the A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus. This is the first steel sports watch produced by A. Lange & Söhne who had previously said they would never make a watch like this. It has a unique design that obviously takes its inspiration from the porthole, similar as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak of Patek Philippe Nautilus. The blue dial has an interesting texture to it that is often done poorly but as always, A. Lange & Söhne did it with true quality. It houses the L155.1 movement and has a 120m water resistance which is plenty if you decide to take it on one of your diving adventures.

Lastly, if you are looking for a dress watch, Grand Seiko is the name to known. Grand Seiko has really proven its worth in the last few years and released some beautiful Spring Drive watches at Baselworld 2019. Which Grand Seiko is really up to you, but one cannot really go wrong with the quality of these watches.
