Double-Wristing, Wearing a Mechanical Watch and a Smart Watch at the Same Time

Double-wristing - the stylistic choice one makes to wear two watches at the same, normally one on each wrist. While this was not very common, say 10 years ago, it has become more and more common to see someone wearing two watches at the same time. The main driver of this increase in double-wristers was the creation of smart watches. While many dismiss smart watches as not being a true watch, their popularity has grown and their benefits are noticeable.

I have covered smart watches on Life on the Wrist on a few occasions. For example, I discussed whether I thought the swiss watch industry was in trouble here as well as a personal story of a watch I lost in the ocean and managed to get it back 4 weeks later. It is undoubtable that smart watches are taking command of many people’s wrists during this era, and less people find themselves buying mechanical watches. One thing I have said on multiple occasions is you can be an enthusiasts for mechanical watches and smart watches. Smart watches are wearable technology; if you treat them that way, there is room to enjoy both just as easily.

I personally find myself wearing an Apple Smart Watch on my right wrist and a mechanical watch on my left, typically something vintage on most days. While I am an enthusiast of mechanical watches, there are benefits that I cannot overlook to wearing a smart watch. For example, having something remind me to get enough exercise each day is very important for the lifestyle I want to live. Further, being able to track my workouts is also a very useful ability. Tracking my heart rate, meditation, and alerts are additional benefits. So why not enjoy both for what they are and wear both? You should decide for what makes you happy anyway.

Enjoy!
